iPad 2 smart cover is too expensive

Even with the backcover it's easy to drop the iPad into the ground. Smartcover with backcover integrated it's the only solution...

Are you serious?
Just curious, do you have hands with fingers?

I have had two iPads now and both are not only used by me but also by my four year old grandson that lives me. No back protection, just one of those Smart Covers made for some of us dummies and it has yet to ever, ever come remotely close to dropping.

Either it is not as easy as you say or I have not tried hard enough.

A good solution for reasonable protection, but clearly not the only solution. It is however, the solution I chose.

It's my opinion of things. I like to take care of my equipment, so my iPad is fully protected with a folio cover and screen protection. Now, if you think you are protecting your iPad putting just a beautifull (but useless) cover on the screen and giving it to a 4 year child that's fine. Who am I to judge?

I am with you. Even if I probably would not drop it ever, without any extra grip on the back it always feels like I have to hold it very carefully and cramp my fingers around it. And I have pretty huge wedding band, it would so scratch the ipad in no time when holding it naturally.

Same with my heavy Nikon camera. I can hold that pretty easily but always hold it very tight as it was expensive. Tied to my wrist with a nice strap I still hold it, but much more relaxed.

Different strokes, for different folks.
What you call useless, I call awesome.
In fact, love it so much, just bought a second one in red last night.

I simply addressed your "it's easy to drop" comment and as disagree with you.
I have never "easily dropped" mine and I don't know anyone that has "easily dropped" theirs too. In fact, would love to know on this board how many have "easily dropped" theirs. Would make for a neat poll.
Should I start it or will you?
It's my opinion of things, as you too have stated.
I too take care of my equipment.
I give it to a four year old because he is smart, ahead of his time, knows to treat it carefully, and has proven the iPad can outlast a 4 year old, with no damage to it at all.
Letting him use it with my supervision does not infer I don't take care of my equipment.
I have Hasselblad equipment that shot over 1,000 weddings and you would never know it was used, never used any protection on it.
My hands just have fingers.:D

I use a smart cover and have a hard clear plastic cover for the back. I also found a small notebook computer case made out of neoprene that I put my iPad and wireless keyboard in when I go out with it.

I am not a great fan of the smart cover but it seems to be working for now

I have the black leather cover that somebody can have for free. It is useless to me. I just got carried away when I was ordering.

US mail address only.

You have a message. :)

I never said it cant be dropped.
Now let's see, how many millions o f iPad and iPad2 sold?
How many dropped?
How many dropped divided by how many sold equals what minuscule pertengage?
Either way, I live carefree and not concerned.
My insurance covers dropping.
My point is I have proven it to be a limited risk in MY case and hence don't see a need to cover my iPad in lead and worry about it.

You asked -- "In fact, would love to know on this board how many have "easily dropped" theirs" -- so I provided the courtesy of a response.

Screen protectors and cases are a form of insurance.
