iPad 2 and gmail

I have seen and read a lot about how gmail upgraded their iPad app so you can see the full screen when composing.
What I cannot find info on is how to be able to see and read a received message in a full screen mode and be able to hide the inbox.

Does anyone know whether this is possible?

Just checked, cannot find a way - would be a nice suggestion.
But the fullscreen when composing - you mean the window which pops up when you compose a new message? - also is not full screen
