Ipad 1 on 4.2.1

I am a new member and have spent several days reading through sticky's and gathering as much information as possible but I'm still a little bit confused. I have an Ipad 1 using 4.2.1. I would like to upgrade to the most recent firmware that is still available as an untethered jailbreak. The app store tells me I have several updates but it will not install them because I need 4.3.? or higher. Just a couple question hopefully someone can clarify for me.

1. Cydia says I have SHSH blobs for 4.2.1, 4.3, 4.3.3, and 4.3.5. I'm currently on 4.2.1 and have been since I purchased the Ipad. I do not know much about blobs other than what I've read in the sticky's on this forum. What is the most recent version of firmware that I can upgrade to and still have an untethered jailbreak?

2. When I updated if the firmware, does it keep all my existing apps installed (Cydia apps and App Store apps) or do I basically start from scratch and have to download everything again?

3. Assuming this is possible, is there a tutorial I can follow that tells me how to update the firmware and keep all my existing apps?

Welcome. So, the good news is you should be able to restore 4.3.3 without any problems which is the latest untethered JB firmware available.

There are 2 options. Either start fresh or upgrade. I like to start fresh this from time to time and it avoids any potential compatability problems between IOS versions and apps you may already have. If you want to start over, follow this tutorial to restore 4.3.3 using TinyUmbrealla -

Although it does not say so, you will need to use TinyUmbrella's "Start TSS Server" at the point when you install the firmware too, otherwise it won't complete (the guide was written when 4.3.3 was current and has not been updated).

The choice of which to do is entirely yours. You could always try the upgrade first and if it does not work out, then start fresh.
