iOS 11.3 code hints at iPad Pro with Face ID.JPG

MacRumors reports that iHelpBR editor Filipe Esposito has found references to a “modern iPad” in strings in the iOS 11.3 beta that was just released by Apple. Apparently, prior to the launch of the iPhone X, Apple engineers used to refer to it as the “modern iPhone,” so it’s likely that this latest code is indeed revealing details about one of the new iPad models that Apple is expected to release this year.

Posting about the discovery on Twitter, developer Guilherme Rambo said, “‘Modern iPad’ is probably an iPad with Face ID,” and this backs up a previous report from KGI Securities’ Ming-Chi Kuo, who has stated that Apple is planning to release a new iPad Pro model with Face ID in 2018. Kuo said that just like the iPhone X, the iPad Pro with Face ID will not have a Touch ID fingerprint sensor. There is not information available yet about whether or not the new iPad Pro would have a TrueDepth notch, or if the iPad’s bezels would be thick enough to house the FaceID sensors.

Due to cost and supply issues, it is likely that the tablet will have an LCD display, due to issues with supply and cost of OLED displays on larger-screened devices such as tablets.
