Hi I am new to the forum, I am an Englishman, a diehard Sunderland AFC supporter that lives and works in Singapore.

I have the Ipad, my wife, one son and one daughter have an I pad 2. My wife and youngest daughter have 4s Iphones I have the 3g iphone. Notice a trend here?:) yes I get the cast offs.

I love to ski and bought an app for my Ipad that displays the piste map and uses gps to track progress all well and good in theory but out on the piste neither the Iphone or Ipad can be read beacuase of the glare.

So I have joined the forum primarily to find out if the new Ipad can be read in sunlight, all of the reviews bang on about the gazillion pixels without any reference to glare.

So I thought I would ask the people who have one and can tell me first hand without my having to wade through another 20 reviews.

I would appreciate your input before I buy the new IPad.

Thanks,

B Happy,

Micheal

Hi and welcome to the Forum!

Wow you take your iPad skiing! I know there has been discussions here for pilots who found the glare not good for flying so you could try a search for this but I'm sure others will chime in to help you. Leaving your iPad in full sunlight for extended periods is not a good idea with overheating though. Best of luck!

Leelai that is the stuff called snow which we don't have in Queensland lol. iPads are not very good in bright sun. There may be screen covers that could reduce the glare.

As Col said there are some anti glare iPad screen protectors available. Also I've had a think on this, there is a setting for White on Black, Settings - General - accessibility. I really don't know if this will be effective or not but have a try. Also I would suggest playing with the brightness setting while in the sun and have you got Polaroid sunnies, these may make a difference. Just some thoughts I thought I'd throw out there.

Your best option is to get an anti-glare matte screen protector. Ghost Armor makes one, I believe (I have something similar on my android phone for the same reason). I've used these in the past on other devices and they help quite a bit. The key is to get a matte screen. Glossy ones are nice when you're not out in the sun, but they are more reflective when you are. I've also seen rare polarized protectors that work similar to privacy screens for PC monitors, however I have not used one to determine how well they work.

I have looked around and from what I have read the ipad is great indoors and when its overcast..but useless in daylight and sunshine.

there are a lot of anti glare sheets out there and none seem to be much good either for outdoors.

the weird thing is of course that Kindle got it spot on and yet Apple....

Howay the Lads..let's hope O'Neill gets some money for next year and we get a few good players.

I have the latest iPad and it is absolutely useless in sunshine. Definitely one thing Apple got wrong. A total waste of time trying to read an iBook or doing anything else for that matter!!!!!!! I AM NOT HAPPY.
