Dave, thank you for answering all of my questions. My curiosity can be tiresome to some people. I love your brand, I suppose you designed that as well? What is the most favourite ( to you ) project you have ever done in wood? Are you self taught or did you apprentice or something else? You sure are good at what you do with wood! I collect small boxes from all over the world. They fit in the palm of my hand ( or my outstretched hand ). The ones made of wood are my favourite, especially the ones with different coloured wood making an organic pattern. ;-)

Hi again Squib - concerning the branding iron, the top part was an ordering option (I picked the simpler choice), so all that I added was Doctor Dave (this had to be made to order so took several weeks before arrival) - I'm now retired, but was a medical physician (University of Michigan Medical School, 1971) and spent 34 years as an Academic Radiologist at Wake Forest University in North Carolina - there I was sub-specialized in 'Abdominal Radiology', so taught, examined patients, and did research related to that area - SO, that is what I did for most of my adult life.

BUT, I have many other interests (many described in my profile), including woodworking - I'm an amateur but quite experienced in certain areas - this is a LARGE area to explore (e.g. I do not do wood turning - own a bunch of stuff that I've bought but just another 'world'); so you're right, I am pretty much 'self taught' although when I grew up in northern Ohio/southern Michigan, my father built a house in the latter location - I was a young teenager then and had to help in this MAJOR project, so learned a lot about basic house building and was also called upon to do a lot of 'finish' carpentry (of course, learned 'on the job') - SO, I love being creative - nothing fascinates more than taking a 'pile of wood' (i.e. good hardwood in particular) and coming up w/ a concept and then converting that into a needed project, such as the lectern built - e.g. all of the wood for the project was just scrap laying around my shop (EXCEPT for the veneered walnut top - had to order that and not cheap BUT donated to the fellowship).

OOPS, this post is getting TOO long but let me know if you really want to see some of my other projects - I have plenty of PICS! P.S. I'm a long term member of the Woodnet Forum and have been posting there for years - :D Dave

Doctor Dave is my favourite part of your brand!! I would love to see more of your work. Perhaps you can PM me a link to the wood network, anyone who has an affinity for wood gets to the top of my Christmas list!! Thanks so much for taking the time to type out all of your answers to my queries, I appreciate your patience and detail to resolve my curiosity! Thank you, thank you Dave.

Hi again Squib -I'm just an amateur @ woodworking but can produce some good looking projects (and useful) - the woodworking forum (now there are many) that I've been a member for over 10 years is Woodnet HERE - my name is the same, BUT although I have a LOT of posts there, I don't show a lot of my projects (i.e. there are a LOT of professionals w/ just gorgeous projects that take weeks to make, so you can imagine the potential for embarrassment posting there - HA!) - BUT, if interested, look in the Woodworking sub-forum where most will post their projects.

NOW - I'll still post in the near future some of my fav projects - don't expect much - Dave :)

Also, check out this if you really want to see a GEM of a work!

Some of these places were on TwistedSifter as well. I remember the Wisteria Flower Tunnel, Tunnel of Love and the Tulip Fields.

Below was a post that I left in a thread on the state of Nevada - left some pics from a trip I took there in the mid-80s - some may enjoy - Lake Mead was at a normal level and the boat ride approached the dam closely; also, one could then visit the dam and take the elevator down to the bottom (not sure if that option has been restored?) - the Valley of Fire State Park is beautiful w/ plenty of stone glyphs (one image in the quote); the colors of the stones are just so typical, especially the alternating whites (limestone) & reds (iron oxide stones) - AND Las Vegas is near, SO if you go to the latter, an absolute must to LEAVE the city and see the surroundings - Dave :)

Hi Moshe... - I've been to Nevada probably 4-5 times, most to the Las Vegas area but also to Reno & Lake Tahoe - we love the desert area - I have a few pics to add for those interested; Hoover Dam, Lake Mead, and a couple of the Valley of Fire park - hope all enjoy - Dave :)

P.S. Click on images to enlarge - 3rd pic shows stone glyphs & love the contrasting colors in the last one!

Nacreous clouds (from nacre, or mother of pearl, due to its iridescence), which are also known as polar stratospheric clouds or PSCs; are clouds in the winter polar stratosphere at altitudes of 15,000–25,000 meters (49,000–82,000 ft).

Due to their high altitude and the curvature of the surface of the Earth, these clouds will receive sunlight from below the horizon and reflect it to the ground, shining brightly well before dawn or after dusk. [Source]

Though stunning in their beauty they are implicated in the formation of the ozone holes over Antarctica. The effects on ozone depletion arise because they support chemical reactions that produce active chlorine which catalyzes ozone destruction.

Hello friends. I've been gone all summer, but hopefully I am back now LOL. 24 hour day light is receeding. Most of the summer work is done. Harvesting comes soon. In the meanwhile, here's a picture I took for you a few days ago.

Have a wonderful weekend.
