What's new

I know! It's one of my favorite things about Vancouver. Right now you could walk or drive for miles with the trees lining both sides of the road. Peace begins with a smile. :) M Teresa
It must be wonderful, taking a walk there and drinking in all the beauty! :-)

Can you state where on Kiawah Island is this nest? Is it easy to get to? I assume you had a clear view of the birds as they left and returned to the nest? Can you see any chicks? Thanks for any info you can provide.

When you go through the gate check on the island (you'll probably be given a temporary pass for your vehicle), continue on the main road to the Sanctuary right turn off - then almost immediately there is a left turn to the 'Tennis Center' - take the left and then an almost immediate left again - you should see a sign for the 'Tennis Villas' - we stayed there; this time in condo 4757 - just continue down to the end of the street; you'll see a wooden bridge which crosses the lagoon - look up to your right the osprey nest is there up high - I saw an adult bird on two different occasions (could have been the same one or the mates?). The nest is quite high so if chicks are present, doubt that you would see then? Hope this helps - I'm sure there are other osprey nests on the island. Dave :)

We had a little storm this morning. Our beautiful library didn't quite survive.

The storm only lasted about 25 minutes, but left this type of damage all over.

This really looks bad!

It was, but no one got hurt - it was open at the time (happened around 11:30 at the start of lunch). Luck continued in that the brick wall did not fail and kept the damage limited to the roof area and the new skylights the trees created. It will be a few weeks before it can reopen.

Thanks, Dave!

Oh my, that's just awful! Very lucky that the wall didn't collapse.....that would have been so much worse!

Just glad no one was hurt!
