I Now Have a Big Paperweight

64 GB 3G NOT jailbroken,

Tried to update to the new OS and it hung with the screen showing the iTunes logo and the USB plug.

Machine is now dead and will go nowhere but to show that iTunes/USB screen.

iTunes says my iPad is in the Recovery Mode and can't communicate with iTunes untl this is fixed. I can't find anything in the User's Guide about the Recovery Mode.

Suggestions?

Tried Restore in iTunes; but it hangs again and leaves me with a brick. Time to call Support.

Also hold down off button and home key until apple logo appears If not the above link should work

PC Windows XP Pro with SP3. Never had problems syncing with iTunes (latest version) up to this point.

When trying to Restore, I get the following error message: "The iPad "iPad" could not be restored. An unknown error occurred (1604)."

Restart the pc change USB ports I unfortunately do not have a pc. I will message another mod see if he can help

Yes. No luck.

It is 10 pm here in aus Friday other mods are asleep in USA so will have to wait a few hours cannot help any more.
The only thing you can try is to remove iTunes application and down load latest version then try again. Makes sure you back up your data first on the pc.

apple error 1604 usually refers to problems with the USB port. Connect to itunes, Put your iPad into recovery mode, do the restore and wait for error 1604, click OK and close and reopen iTunes its while still connected.

Yes, iTunes, sorry. If you look up that error code you can find the precise apple directions...I don't have the link right here.

Tried a different USB port. It hangs during the "Preparing iPad for restore" step in the process. The following log shows that restore succeeded, but iTunes says the iPad is still in the recovery mode; and it obviously still is a brick.

Guess I'm going to have to call support. Arrggghhhh!

The copy of the 3.2.1 firmware your iTunes downloaded is corrupt. Go to
C:\Documents and Settings\USER_NAME\Application Data\Apple Computer\iTunes\iPod Software Updates


And delete the firmware file that was downloaded. Make sure your computer is connected to the Internet via cable and not wifi if possible and have iTunes download the software again and perform the restore.

Having similar issue here. Now it is suck with a picture of sync cable to CD on the ipad. I am trying to see if I can use another computer to restore.
