My PC will not even charge my iPad. It was working fine and now I cannot synch with iTunes because my PC will not even recognize my iPad. Anyone got any easy solutions?

OK - don't worry - we're here to help...

First of all - and let's get the simple things out of the way first - a 'normal' PC USB port can only charge at 500mA, whereas the iPad charger is 2A - *four* times as much. So, the iPad says 'Not charging' when connected to a PC to remind you.

But, if this is a new problem...try this.....

The easiest first way to try to solve ‘unexplained’ or ‘unusual’ problems with the iPad are:-

Force the offending app to close. If you have iOS 4.2 or 4.3 double-press the ‘Home’ button to bring up the multi-task bar at the bottom of the screen. Press *and hold* any icon until they start to ‘jiggle’. Then tap the top left-hand corner of the app that you want to close. It will ‘disappear’ from the list. Don’t panic - you’ve not deleted it, just closed it. Now tap the Home screen and the multi-task bar will disappear. Re-open the iPad’s app and see if the problem has resolved itself. If not, it’s on to possible solution number two!!
Restart the iPad. Press *and hold* the Power button. After a couple of seconds a slider control will appear asking you to confirm that you really want to switch the iPad off (this is all you’ll be doing). Slide the control to accept. A rotating white ‘bezel’ will appear in the iPad screen as the iPad powers down (it takes a few seconds, just like it would if you were shutting down your PC). When the screen of the iPad has gone completely blank, press *and hold* the Power button for a couple of seconds until the white Apple logo appears and the iPad starts to power up. This takes several seconds, so be patient. During the power up the automatic screen orientation function is disabled, so don’t panic. A few seconds before the power up is complete, the iPad plays a little ‘jingle’ and then you’re back to the Home screen. Restart the iPad’s app and see if the problem persists. Apple (and Forum members) recommend that you power down your iPad at least once a week, just as you might regularly completely switch off your PC. The normal procedure of just briefly pressing the Power button of the iPad merely puts it to ‘sleep’. Most Forum members have found that one of the two methods I’ve mentioned here cure a whole bunch of unexplained problems and are an easy first step to resolving most anything that happens on the iPad.

Outside my iPad, or was it inside?

The iPad will always show "Not charging", when it is connected to a computer, as the computer USB usually only supplies 0.5mA, as opposed to the 2A, supplied by the iPad charger. So when it says not charging, it isn't being honest, the iPad does get charged, but generally only at a quarter of the normal speed.

Is the iPad otherwise working fine? Can you use it, or is the battery perhaps empty and you just need to charge it?
Also, to avoid common errors, it is useful to reboot the iPad (hold the power/wake button for 5 seconds, then once the red slider appears, slide to power off), as well as rebooting the computer. For example my laptop refuses to sync the iPad, when it gets waked up after hibernating. Only after starting it fresh, will the sync work.

Edit: Tim was already here. There should be a red warning sign in a thread, when Tim is writing a response ;)

Nothing has worked. The iPad works fine by itself - it charges using the adapter and all apps work. When I plug into the USB port, it does nothing. There is not even the "not charging" indication and itunes does not recognize it. I basically have a stand-alone iPad.

It's not the cable because I connect my iPhone 4 no problem. Someone told me it was an issue with Windows 7. Has anyone had this problem with a Mac?

I have exactly the same problem. Cable OK, tried Tims tips, downloaded latest version of itunes but all to no avail, both the ipad and the laptop beep repeatedly, but do not recognise each other. itunes does not start up when the ipad is connected and the laptop does not even prompt me to choose an action. Any suggestions?

Does anything else work in the USB port? Could be faulty.

is your ipad jailbreaked? if it is, do you have any cracked cydia products installed? if you have them, try uninstalling all of them. My friend's ipad 2, ios 5.0.1 jailbreaked with cydia got the same problem because of cracked cydia product, and when he un-installed it, the ipad 2 worked again.
