Greetings all,
I just received my ipad 1 today (won it in a contest) and it currently has iOS 3.2.2 on it. I tried going to jailbreakme.com but it says I need to update, however as I'm reading it seems the latest version is not fully jailbreakable? So what's the best course of action right now? What's the easiest way for me to get the latest fully (untethered) jailbroken OS?

Use greenpoison. Very easy and simple. Greenpois0n.com
But, you are missing out on many features that iOS 4.0+ gives such as multitasking, etc.
The latest version of iOS is 4.3.5, which for iPad 1 is a tethered jailbreak, but includes all the latest features. Your choice.

Ah, I see...I have to choose between an old untethered version or the latest tethered....as I am brand new to this world, what would you recommend?

Edit: Nevermind, I'm going to update. I already backed up the current files with tiny umbrella so I can revert back to 3.2.2 if I want correct?

STOP AND READ THIS BEFORE YOU UPDATE!!!!

Apple stopped signing 3.2.2 a LONG time ago so you will never be able to downgrade. EVER.

Look at the part about iFaith. Give it a try before you upgrade.

You probably can go back to iOS 3.2.2, although it's not Tiny Umbrella that'll help here, it'd be a program called iFaith. iFaith works by creating a signed IPSW version of the firmware you are currently running on the iPad.

This is more than likely your only option to "save" the iOS 3.2.2 firmware as Apple has long stopped signing it.

See here for more about iFaith: http://www.ipadforums.net/ipad-hacking/42360-ih8sn0w-releases-ifaith-1-3-a.html

But, yeah, I would have picked upgrade also, even though it'll be a tethered jailbreak. You get so much more with iOS 4.3.5 than you have with 3.2.1.

Good luck and happy jailbreaking!

Marilyn

P.S. See, this is what I get for typing so slowly! But, I'll keep the post here ... adds more.
