Help with iPad Photo app

Hi,
I have an iPad2 and my Photo app has just stopped working. I can take a picture from my camera and see the little thumbnails on the left bottom side of that screen but it doesn't bring up the pictures. All I see is a black screen. Did I do something wrong or turn something off by mistake? I can see that I have a couple of pictures when I go to Settings>General>About. But nothing in my photo app. Any ideas?

Try a reset.

Hold down both the home button and power buttons till the ipad shuts off. Restart and see if they reappear.

I have tried resetting and also cold reboot but still doesn't work.
