HD vs DVD video quality

How does 480p look on the ipad?Is it worth acquiring HD content or is dvd quality tolerable?

Even being a bit downscaled, 720p looks better than 480p on the ipad. It all depends how important this difference is to you.

I'm just in the process now of putting a standard DVD and a HD DVD on to see how big the difference is.

EDIT: I've just converted carriers blu-ray and carriers DVD and played them both on my iPad and my verdict is......stick to DVD the quality on blu-Ray in my eyes is not worth the bigger file size or time to convert.
