When you go through your followers, friends or paper and see red toolboxes and they are locked, DON'T tap the red cross to make them sink. Tap the screen away so the pop up window closes. You will then find 100% a new box in the next farm you visit. Repeat until you get an unlocked one. Normally you waste a few seconds doing this. I can find unlocked ones every few minutes. Sometimes 10 attempts, sometimes 20. Sometimes 2 unlocked in a row. Varies.
Important: if the box is in YOUR farm you have to make it sink else it will just stay there until you use 3 diamonds or tap the cross (actually don't know if there is a max time for it to stay visible but just make that sink anyway )

Do you find that after you get an unlocked one you can't find another one locked or unlocked for a bit? This is the case with me, and I like keeping that box that never goes away on my farm because I can go back to it and attempt to open it right after finding an unlocked box and it makes the other ones come back. Does that make sense at all?

This is the case with me, and I like keeping that box that never goes away on my farm because I can go back to it and attempt to open it right after finding an unlocked box and it makes the other ones come back. Does that make sense at all?

yes when you hit an unlocked one it's like a "counter" restarts and you can't find some until after a couple of attempts (same happens when you tap the red cross).
sometimes if you return to your farm you see your box has changed location and it can be that it is unlocked. I would also think its content would change but nothing to prove it.
However when I make my own box sink, I can still find other boxes in other farms, not sure if that happens to you too.
