Has anyone visited Walmart.com and see how their advertising the iPad??

I just went to Walmart.com and they have all the ipad listed and a couple of them say in the description "flash drive". Am I missing something or what????

no your not miss understanding the fact of what is beening called a flash type of drive on the ipad.. the whole thing is that some people have a miss understanding of the harddrive or lack of a what commonly known as a harddrive or flash type drive in the unit stowage of the basic data of the system and it memory of the items that are stowed into the system ..the system is more of the flash style of drive and it makes easly to say flash drive when selling a product to a person who not a tech savy person in the first place..

No, that's accurate - it's why we've got such limited storage and impressive battery life. Conventional hard drives are still too thick and power-draining for an iPad (as well as generating a lot more heat). Well, there are the new solid-state drives, but those cost as much as the iPad itself and they would have required changes to the interior architecture of the iPad.

Soild state drives have really come down now. You can get 128GB for $200 now. 64GB is even cheaper. The days of slow booting computers will be coming to a close as these get cheaper.

The flash memory used in the iPad, cell phones and such is even faster than a SSD though (and more expensive).

I am not sure exactly what year this was (probably late 70's or very early 80's), but I am still trying to figure out why we call them "The Good Old Days"

I would say somewhere between 1981 and 1983. Don't think they were that "cheap" before then lol.

I used to have a Tandy catalog from 1983 that had a 5 megabyte "Winchester" hard drive advertised for $5,000.

In 1989, you could buy a Ford Escort (4 door!) for less than the price of a Tandy 5000!

Which is why computers have such a short useful life. The latest thing is a new hybrid drive that uses a SSD with a hard drive. It may be a standard product, or a bust. It could be hot for a couple years. Anyone remember Zip drives?
