Google Adds CardDAV Support for Contacts

You can now use Google's new CardDAV support to sync your contacts with the iPad. This is mostly useful for those who do not want to use Google's Exchange server option.

Is there an advantage to carddav over the exchange server option?

No obvious ones. It still does not support labels/groups.

I gather it is mostly to support developers of third party apps that need Contacts syncing with Google.
