A story in the Washington Post today gives an in-depth portrait of how many different branches of federal government in the US are adopting the iPad. The story features a special agent from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives using an iPad as part of his video surveillance rig to track a criminal’s every move. According to the Washington Post, where once Blackberrys and laptops ruled the roost in federal government, iPads and iPhones are slowly taking their place. The Post lists The State Department, The Army, The Department of Veterans Affairs, and NASA, as just some of the areas of government that have adopted the iPad and iPhone, and says that government officials have told them that integrating Apple products into their departments will help to make staff more productive and will also cut billions of dollars from the $80 billion that is spent per year on information technology.
