eMail Question

I only want to receive new eMail on my iPad.
My problem is I get every message that I have already opened on my iMac.

Is there a way to set up my devices to only receive mail that has not been received already?

The only way I can think of is to set up your mail on the Mac to delete mail from the server at time of download [to the Mac]. Then, it won't be on the server when you go to your iPad.
