I think that you did unfortunately get a bad support person!!! If you go directly to the Apple store they are much more helpful and when my iPhone speaker stopped working...it was actually 1 day out of warranty and they still replaced it for free! If I were you I would at least call the store or go online and log that you had a problem with it. That way they have it on record. Best of luck to you!
