That's cool. Nice places but to me they are pretty much southern Florida all over again. Lol.

Kaui is great, but Maui No Ka Oi.
Aloha,
Keoni (that's what they call me in Hawaii)
As a neighbor, I don't feel like it depreciate the neighborhood and we never have any issue. They block out the weeks when they are back in the states. A few weeks in the summer and Xmas. Some of the homes here do have a basement, we don't. Homes on the downslope side of the hill do.
Great your vacationers are grandparents providing a family vacation in Naples. I don't know the websites, I am sure you could google vacation home rentals in Naples. See what the market like.

Oh are you talking basements in Cali? Or Orlando? We had them all over in Idaho etc. Just not down here in Florida. The water table is at about 2 feet I think so you couldn't have one even if you wanted. Seasonal rentals are quite expensive here that I know.
Where would be your idea place?
Definitely no basements anywhere here where i live. Those hillside things don't really count as basements. We don't have real attics either. Our poor kids grow up without any spooky experiences to tell their kids one day

Maui is nice too. Does it rain a lot in Bend?
T'is interesting to read how things are different on both sides of the big pond. Here in switzerland we all have basements and not only that, it is mandatory to build an anti-atomic shelter in it at construction time. So i have one at my place, supposed to offer shelteer to 17 people but i can tell you, in case i would rather stay outside in the garden then being stuck in there!

I don't get down to orange often anymore, but I always enjoyed how clean and spread out some of the areas are. It's a perfect place to raise a large family. I do love Carlsbad, it's a nice beach community. My son got an acceptance letter from UC irvine honor program. But his criteria is nothing in So.Cal is his preference. Sigh

That's one main problem keeping me put. I don't know. Australia, Sweden maybe....love Hawaii but not sure...thinking I may want more "mainland" than that. Not sure. Were retired so we could go anywhere...we just get bored too quickly lol. I guess I'm at that point where I don't know where I want to settle at. *sigh*
