As for panlongs, they are tough. Many on this forum went 40+ tries before getting one. The two combinations you mention are the only ones that I know that have been successful. There are pro's and con's with each. Blazing/Mud seems to have a little more success, but it frequently produces the dreaded 12-hour $5K Lava when it fails.

I really like Poppy's decorated islands. I would like the ability to turn some of the decorations around so they face the left as well as the right to balance some things. Also it would be great tobe able to have finer control over placement, I guess that would mean something like a smaller underlying grid.

Reached level 30 last night. The biggest bonus was another habitat. That pushed me over the edge - wasn't too far - I've decided to go for gold shrines.

I'm doing air and cold habitats first with snows because they're 8-hour and sell for $1M. And they breed with cold & air dragons which doesn't take big coin producers offline. I have about 15/50 of each habitat right now and I think I can do one a day. Fortunately I have a number of Panlongs, Bluefires and Frostfires pumping out prodigious amounts of gold coins. My second coin generator is to breed Sandstorms. They're 2/2 and produce $500K which buys 10,000 in treats.

So I'm hoping to have my first two gold shrines in about a month. I'm still thinking about which shrines to go for next. The Panlongs with their four elements are tempting at first glance, but they have serious drawbacks. Number one is the 36-hour time and number two is you're taking big coin producers offline.

Yes turning around would be very nice, however this style has it's perks too. A little trick I've mastered on Farmville, long long ago, is to use optical illusion.
E.g. A huge treat farm can be turned into a more realistic building by placing a villa behind the brick part. This way it doesn't look like a silly tower. An other illusion I use it putting a dragon Inn behind the Air boost. This makes it look like a little church to put in your town.

Ah yes true, but they do save you out on 75% of the coin and space cost compared to single element dragons, and 50% compared to dual element dragons. It's a toss up anyway. I'm going to breed 40 of them, and let them stay on my islands in the mean time, making lots of money, and then level them all up to lv 10, afterwards to lv15.

I'm further along even though she began playing before me, the reason is because she studies if not she would have kick my butt at Dragonvale a long time ago.

A bit snappy perhaps, but I do agree on the first part. I'm very certain this game (at this point) has a very simple coding compared to other games. I doubt many variables are taken into account when you breed dragons. Your dragons may or may not keep genes, but I'm pretty sure it's decided what you get based on a random roll. The rare ones are just rare because they have a very low probability of being selected that's all.

Some people are just lucky, when other are, well.. not.
In my case luck always comes in a bundle. I got my Sun dragon on my birthday and my Panlong was conceived on the day my partner made a promotion. Funny how it goes.

Anyway the fact is that we don't really know what the truth is for certain, so it's better not to claim we do though I do want to give it an educated guess. This is pure speculation so bear with me..

For our example I'm gonna use Blazing x Mud, and I'm going to assume level and dna play no part in this.
Blazing dragon consists out of fire and air, mud out of water and earth. Let's say that for breeding you have 3 possibilities: Element one is selected, element 2 is selected or both are selected. I'm gonna give fictive numbers...

Fire 40%
Air 40%
Fire x Air 20%

Earth 40%
Water 40%
Earth x Water 20%

So let's say this is it (which it's not and I'll get back on that later), then the chance your 2 dragons make a fog dragon is 16%
To make a Panlong, both of the double genes must be selected. As you can tell the chance of that happening is far smaller: 4%
That means that generally speaking, with these numbers, every 25 tries should yield a Panlong on average.

However, I'm sure some combination have a second check too. E.g. this combo should be able to produce sandstorm dragons at a rate of 16%. We all know this isn't the case. Some dragons have another value assigned to them to make the odds of getting that even slimmer. I believe special dragons work like that too. Whenever a combination of genes is created, a second roll decides wether it will be a regular or special dragon.

These are far from correct, but I'm interested in testing this. I'm going to keep a record of my breeding attempts to see if I can make a general % out of them.

I would love nothing more than for someone to figure this stuff out. I keep track of every breeding while trying to get a rare. Also I just did try 23 for panlong with mud/blazing...think I will get it soon? I sure hope so. Let us know what you come up with...:thumbs:

Just keep in mind that those are just theories and whether they are fact or not they have worked for some. I'm not saying I believe they are fact because I think they are probably just coincidence but hey...if it works for some it's worth a try.

So at the end of last year my wife tells me about DragonVale. I ask how you win. She tells me it's not that sort of game and explains it to me. I tell her I don't really have time for it. She tells me just to download the app and ship her a gem every day ... I wouldn't even have to play. 24 hours later I'm hopelessly addicted.

We all made a rule that we had to earn everything in the game rather than spend money to get things the easy way, but we made an exception to buy enough gems for the Breeding Island, because we really enjoyed the game and figured we should give something back to the company.

Just posting here to say hello and introduce myself. My Dragonvale experience is summed up in my signature. Started keeping track of my breeding combinations from Jan 16th. 92 so far.

I have seen some posts about great island layouts. Would love to check some out. And would appreciate any feedback on my layout.

Thanks for all the informative posts. I have not read the entire thread, but will try and keep up with new posts from this point on.

Yes, they're cheating. It's very easy to jailbreak an iPad. Then you can install an app that steals the gems, coins, treats - everything - from the game producer. I've asked a couple of game producers why they continue to publish the outrageously high scores of the cheaters on the leader boards and have never gotten a response. I don't know what kind of person takes pride in succeeding at a game by stealing from the game producer.

Thank you for that!! We all get very frustrated with this game. That is what we have each other for. Most of us on here only have this thread to talk good and bad with. I know if I when running up to my hubby and said " I just got my rainbow dragon can u believe it? I got it!! " he would look at me like I was crazy... So with that. I can come on here tell my dv fam!! I get to share in their great moments as well as there bad.. So like us all we all share our good and bad as well as get the support we need (sometimes) to continue... But we have also made some great friendships on here and I know I get very upset when someone is mean to someone on here that did not deserve it.
So if you are having a bad day we are here to give u a pick up or advise. If you are having a great day we are here to help you celebrate!!!! So with that welcome and have as great of a time with these great people as I do!!!! Love u all. 8)

Well I'm no closer in my quest for a panlong !!!! got yet another 2 ugly lavas brewing in my caves and 2 more in my nursery i must have tried 40 plus times now and wasted a shed load of gems I'm so unhappy right now my mud and blazing hate me booooooo haha

Just hang in there. My level 10 blazing and level 4 mud have been in that breeding cave since panlong came out. Finally, I got it last night. If not for this forum I would still be back at level 1 you guys are great.
