Dragonvale Tips & Tricks! (NO Friend Requests!)

btw, my DD is finishing college at UofO; I finally got to visit her there a year ago in December - LOVE OR!! :-)

So, clearly I'm totally not up to speed on the strategies. First of all, I've looked over your (beautiful!) islands more than once, Poppy, and still don't know what/where the CGCF is... Nor do I know anything about switching shrines from silver to gold (I only have one silver one at this point). Perhaps I'm not leveled up enough; only at 18 still, should be 19 soon. And, is that also why my dragons max out at level 10?

Lastly, I don't have a sandstorm dragon yet, and from what I'm seeing, sounds like they're wicked difficult to get. True?

Thanks everyone, again, for all your help!

The CGCF stands for the Chinese Gold Coin Factory. When I decided to go for the gold (shrines) I realized that unless I wanted it to take a number of years or I was willing to spend a lot of money, I needed to come up with a setup that delivered gold coins at a high rate. This coincided with the introduction of the Panlong (ask GT Girl why it has the word "long" in it :) ) dragon that was perfect for what I wanted to accomplish. When optimized it has an extremely high production rate of 411 gold coins a minute. It contains 4 elements which meant leveling up a bunch of Pans would contribute greatly to the gold shrine effort. And, fortunately, one of the 4 elements is Earth, which at 75,000 has the highest gold coin capacity of any of the habitats, except for the premiums such as Rainbow, Sun and Moon. But while Rainbow has a capacity of $1M and produces at the rate of 400 coins a minute, you can only have one per habitat. While an Earth habitat with 3 Pans, each at 411 a minute, produces a total of 1,233 coins a minute, dwarfing the Rainbow. The only problem is, even at a capacity of 75,000, the Earth habitat fills up in about an hour which means you have to constantly retrieve your coins.

To me the perfect combination would be to have a large number of Earth habitats combined with a large number of Rainbows. Kind of a turbo-tortoise and hare approach. I was fortunate to already have a lot of Rainbows and a lot of habitats because I was at level 30. So I decided to invest a few bucks and set up the CGCF. I spent about $125 over a few days and had things where I thought they were just about right. However, a complication arose - I wanted to resurrect my favorite island, the Nursery Island, which meant I had to greatly reduce the number of habitats being used by the CGCF. Fortunately by then the Hibernation Cave had been introduced and, since I'm in a situation where I can pick up coins frequently, I opted to put most of the Rainbows away and concentrate on the high level producing Panlongs. So I presently have 8 Earth habitats with 24 Panlongs on the Asian themed island (thus the name) that produce coins at a prodigious rate.

I then discovered the one or two hour cycle breeding of Air and/or Sandstorm dragons produced at an even higher rate for a very modest cost in gems. So I combined that with the Panlongs to form the final CGCF as you see it now. As a result I should be able to achieve gold shrines in a reasonable period of time at a reasonable cost, something that seemed impossible when I first did the calculations.

Forgive the opus - I just woke up from a nap and wrote this while my head was clearing.

Ok off topic but kind of on, did anyone else read the Eragon series? They made a horrible movie but I really liked the books ( there are 4). Anyway for you dragon addicts might be fun to read.

Well, I got my first love right off, last night (named her after my wife), put her in a secret hab (look at my islands, see if you can find her flying around). This morning, got another 5h from Lightning and Flower in the cave, and got a 36h in the EBI! Wow! Also have Island four on its way. Neat!
Glad to hear things are finally going your way with the breeding, sir. Congrats on all.

And yes, I spied her. Very sneaky.

How do we get this new "Love" dragon? :D

Seems quite nice! Anyome have any info on it? (pictures, incubation time, income, ect?)

Ladtly, I don't have a sandstorm dragon yet, and from what I'm seeing, sounds like they're wicked difficult to get. True? Thanks everyone, again, for all your help!

I'm probably the only one here that can write a 500 word essay and not answer someone's questions.

Yes, Gurukarm, the Sandstorms, maybe along with the Panlongs, are the most difficult dragons to get after the premiums. I was fortunate to blither into getting my Sandstorms at an early stage and don't even recall the combo(s) that bred them. I'm sure others here who keep better records than me and who have gotten one more recently can make recommendations.

Glad you like Oregon!

That is why I think I will delete... Not sure I can handle it.... Or I can use it to send out 3 extra gems per day. ;)

Sent from. Tricia xoxo

Besides ping insane and not having a life, that is really the only benefit I see. Unless I am not seeing something in having two accounts. Are you able to switch dragons between accounts?

What's the magic combo for a sandstorm dragon? I've been reading all the tips on here for the others i need: Bluefire, Panlong, Sun, and Moon. I have a love incubating and just hatched rainbow (mud/blazing), but I don't see any tips for sandstorm.

Thanks for any advice!!

Mud + Air. Took me a long, long time though.

No luck on several tries breeding the new dragon so I broke down and bought one :-) Will keep trying to breed tho.

I was thinking about something Poppy said the other day about spending $1.99 to $4.99 on - I think it was food, and I thought he meant "each day" - which rather made me gasp - but then I thought, well, it's really no different than spending similar on coffee or breakfast on the run every day - and a lot more satisfying, haha!

Yeah, beware it may become a DV addict habit LOL

Ok I only have air and water shrines to get to silver (im not going for gold shrines yet, need a break from feeding those dragons!) then I need to go back to trying for a moon. It's that one that has eluded me, and of course it's the one I think is cutest and want! I think it's face looks sweet. Though the love dragon does that little giggle which is awesome.

What dragon does everyone like the most? And why?

Baby Quake bouncing on it's tail is pretty cute.
Firefly has a nice design to it.
The Fire and Bluefire have a nice look too ... not sure if I prefer the blue or red.

That's because this bugger is darn difficult to get. I'm currently trying for my second (first one took AGES) with air and level 4 mud. I'm thinking of giving air+Panlong a try, I heard that it works occasionally too.

Good luck!

Would sandstorm + air or earth be a good choice to try and get your second?

Just thought that I would share that I got a sandstorm from panlong and air. I was really surprised at first, then i realized that the panlong can be classified as an earth hybrid, and air and earth hybrid= sandstorm

Okay, in 30 minutes I'm going to use 26 gems to speed up both my Panlong and (oh please DV gods) my first Rainbow so I can try for the Love dragon. This 30 minutes is going to feel like forever!! Also have to work out which habitat to destroy so I can get my Rainbow a place to live, but also wanted my Panlong to have a new home of his own so he can earn lots. Hmmm, decisions, decisions.

Keeping Track of Gems Owed

We've discussed lately some of the ways to keep track of who you owe gems to. One particular problem I have is that I use two different devices - my iPad during the day and my iPhone in the middle of the night. During the day I just wrote them down in a notebook. However, that isn't possible in the dark in the middle of the night with my wife sleeping in the same room.

But I've come up with a solution that works very well for me. When I receive notice of a gem received I exit DV and open Notepad and enter the name there. As I sync up the two devices using iCloud (cool technology) the lists are always up to date on both devices.
