Hi there guys!
I'm new here and also a big DragonVale fan! Been looking at this thread and I just HAD to register myself
As many of you, I'm also struggling to get those rare dragons.. Except for that damn SUN dragon, just hatched my freggin 3rd one
If it wasn't for that habitat update, i'd already sold him!

Newbie question(s):
1) when an egg says it takes 10 hours, is that the time it takes to breed and then hatch? (forgive exact wording, at work and don’t have game with me)
2) Once I start getting hybrid dragons can I, should I sell off the lower $ per M dragons that I started the game with? I am running out of room already and I am not sure if I should sell dragons or build more habitats. I have a second tree about to hatch and wonder if I should sell my original plant dragon or build another plant habitat.
3) Is it worth upgrading the nursery to 3 nests at level 14 or can I stay at the two without backing things up?

1 - 10 hours to breed AND then 10 hours in the nursery incubating!
2 - Dependng on how many standard/pure element dragons you have, you may want to sell some to have room but you can and probably will need at least one of each for breeding purposes so I would not suggest selling all of them. If you have the coin and space available, build another habitat (remember tree can go in Earth OR Plant).
3 - I waited a LONG time upgrade my nursery and only did so when I actually 'needed' to. You'll have to work out if you are running out of space often enough to warrant spending the gems.

So does it mean it is possible to breed water without buying it? I've been trying lightning ang cold and I keep on getting storm. My dragons are both level 9.

Looks like you can get water from lightening and cold, just a matter of luck. I will try that tonight and see if I get lucky and can save $500K.

It is NOT possible to breed a Water dragon - it has to be bought!
Air is the only 'pure element' you can breed (Water x Fire)

So I logged in a few minutes ago to start reading posts from where I'd been in yesterday and it was all going along normally, smoothly, calmly...I was thinking which posts I needed or wanted to reply to and suddenly BOOM UPDATE and the thread goes crazy!! I'm kinda excited but nervous to do it so haven't yet. I am always worried I am going to miss something or lose something (like I missed out on the Bone dragon because I didn't know it was a limited edition when I first started and upgraded)... Can anyone reassure me?

You can be 100% reassured. Nothing has gone missing except for the snow. Only problem is that now I REALLY need an iPad. I can't zoom out to see my whole island which will become a problem when I am decorating the new ones - how can I possible make them look perfect if I can't see the symmetry!!

Oh, and a big congratulations on your Rainbow and Sandstorm (evil little man!). I finally got my Sandstorm but my luck with a Rainbow didn't get any better over Christmas / New Year. Still crossing fingers though!

It's awesome that you saved all your gems, now you have more than enough for that gem tree. To think that I wasted 24 to get the crystal out of the breeding cache is a bit painful. Lesson learned...maybe...

Ok so there is a gem tree? What? Really? I haven't done the update yet. Will probably do it in a hour or two. Lol I learned awhile ago. I would say Michelin is the one that showed me more patience! Lol. (Thank you my friend for that!) I was blowing through them as soon as I got them before but now I've been like a miser not knowing what would happen in the next update because the last update I ended up spending the 4.99 just to get that darn EBI.

I am new at this about a week... I can not get some of these dragons... What am I doing wrong. I have tried all combos... HELP!!!!!!

It's already been said but patience is the key. A week is not all that long so you might have to just lower your expectations a little, hehe. You just have to keep trying and swapping (order or combination) and hoping, hehe. Good luck!

Welcome Aboard!! I've managed two suns and a moon but the elusive Rainbow dragon is driving me almost insane ... it's a little crazy when I keep setting the alarm and/or countdown timer on my phone to make sure I don't miss out on any breeding times, hatching times, food times and colosseum events! Hmmm, having typed that I'm a little concerned with my current mental health status

How mad !!!! I've just put willow and crystal in my normal cave ... And got 24 hrs ! But then I put the same 2 sonic and storm dragons I've been breeding for daaaays AND GOT A 48 HR WOOHOOOOOOOOO lol sorry I'm just sooooooooooo pleased !!!!!!!
Please please please be a moon they are so cute I just have to have one fingers crossed for your rainbow x

Everything looks really strange without the snow I never had DV before the last update, so does only moons come from sonic and storm or do you get suns too really want mine to be a moon

Although I won't complain if it's a sun as I have neither ;-)

Can anyone tell me how much the air and water shrines cost please I've just levelled up 22 and had the lightening shrine become available (5,000,000 OMG!!!!) and I'm wondering since the price has pretty much doubled for each new shrine will that double again for the others it's so hard to save plus need to buy treats to lvl up dragons! making a bit of cash on unwanted eggs from my quest for a sun and moon dragon helps though it's just I'm losing sleep because I'm waiting for things finish or to tap those plant and lightening habitats just one more time lol x

Water costs 5 million and Air 10 million! I only just got my Air shrine so I am particularly raw about spending the coin, haha.

You should not lose anything but sometimes things happen. You should be ok though. :thumbs:

Yikes, I just got two crustals in a row. Spent 24 crystals to get the first one out of the cave and was immediately blessed with a second. Curses!!!

ETA: Double curses!!! I just got a sun dragon from the EBI, put storm and mud back on it...24hr crystal

If you buy the gem tree for 100 gems it allows you to send 6 gems per day instead of 3. Unfortunately, without the gem tree I'm afraid it is still just the usual three ...
