I have never done it, but as far as i understand it You can buy a program to download onto your computer. You plug your Idevice into the USB port and run the program it takes a little while to break it. Advantages are that you no longer have to pay for anything, and you can change settings such as giving it an android set up. It is not against US federal law to jailbreak your device. It does however void your warranty. It takes all the fun out of games because it makes it so you can acquire anything anytime. No point. No fun.

I wanted to figure it out myself! But this forum is fun and informative! Now I'm at a slightly higher level, I want help and info! Thx for answer on JB

I think it's not illegal because you can use it to change the layout and settings apple doesn't want you to have.
