Has anyone managed to breed the solstice dragon WITHOUT having a sun habitat?
Just wondering if that might be why I can't seem to get it after so many tries

You don't need a sun habitat to breed a solstice. You need the habitat however to put the solstice dragon into after it has hatched.

Never mind it must of been a glitch, I just went back into my game and he no longer blots out two habitats.

I don't think so, it's mainly just the luck of the draw type thing. I know some people however have bred rares with different level dragons. For example breeding a level 10 dragon with say a level 6 dragon has worked

Thanks everyone on my question about friends, the reason I was asking is because I would like to SEE more than just the five friends parks that I can see now. I just thought it might not be the thing to do if you could not gift the gems.
I know you can visit random ones but you can't see whose they are which I think should be changed Mr BFS if you are reading. After I get my EBC the gifting tree will be next on my wish list.

Current = water + lightening hybrid

I believe I got mine with water + storm 


Plasma = lightening + water hybrid

I got that one with lightening + seaweed.

i was explained that you should use a hybrid whose 1st element is the competition element. it gave a gold when i tried. but all my dragons are lvl ten.

I'm getting a little tired of lack of success. Got all the available dragons and a few no longer available, except the Moon dragon. I reckon I've tried 150 times plus with Lichen/Lightning and Lichen/Firefly and no luck. This since I ended up with just the Moon to go!

You could try storm/litchen. That is what I used and I got mine in no time, but I have had no problems getting suns and moons.

Lvl 10 doesn't guarantee gold but it does help.
