Woohoo! Finally got my moon!
I'd been trying sonic and storm all week. Started trying mud and storm yesterday and got it on about the 5th try

Now I have nothing to do.

Hmmm...well after you have worked on the bluefire/ice combo you could try the gene thing with seaweed and firefly. I don't know if I really believe in it but it has worked for a couple of us on here so far.

I'm also trying like 20 times before I switch the order. Don't know if that helps or not. Seems in a way it could be just luck of the draw but I wonder why some have all the luck and some aren't getting anything. It would be nice if they would atleast confirm one way or another if it's all just luck or if there is a method to the madness ya know?!

My gosh, that's a lot of 8 hr breeding! I gave up on bluefire/crystal because I kept getting crystal over and over...24 hrs no thanks. That's exactly why I'm giving it everything I have to get the 2 rainbows before I go back to that madness.

I agree...it would be nice to be able to gift other than just gems and I think it would be nice to be able to gift every friend instead of just 3 a day.

Well I don't know how but it worked tried seaweed and firefly for 100 years (at least it felt like it) today I switched, thanks to you guys
. Voila one 48 hour dragon no idea what it is but the feeling is exciting and really that shows how addictive that it all is.

By the way. Don't think it has anything to do with gene pool, how many habitats, or how many dragons u have at level 10, or what is where on what island - was trying it all.
Just bored and kept trying. Refused to buy one either. Still haven't got sandstorm and have no idea what the 48 hour dragon is, but soooooo excited - we need an update tho badly

Try Fire+Snow. Got 2 Blue Fires in about 5 attempts.

Tried that. Still getting ice dragon.
I've even filled the habitats for ice, in the hope I'll stop getting them. Makes no difference.

Gonna try breeding with out boost buildings. See if that help.

Try fire and mountain or mountain and ice

Finally a sandstorm. I used air and quake level 10. I took the advice of the others and built my habitats to their max. A couple habitats only had one or two as i kept selling what i didnt want Then and only then did I have a little baby sandstorm. Aaaaahhhh. Now to try for the allusive rainbow, sun and moon. thanks

HORROR! I've lost it all! I was up to level 20. I had everything but the moon, rainbow and sandstorm dragon. I even spent money on gems and now it is all gone!

I updated my iPad with IOS 5 and it reset everything. My Apple ID had to be reset when I purchased my iPhone but my iPad held onto the old ID. With the download and the restore, the old ID - the one that I made before they required an email address as the ID - is gone and no amount of searching for answers has worked.

Even if I work to build it all back up again, I won't be able to get the bone dragon.

Update
I just discovered that my iPod Touch is still signed in to my old GameCenter account so I still have access to my level 20 Dragonvale game. Although it is not the best format for this game with such a small screen, at least I can continue to breed to get the rare dragons until I can figure out how to get back into that account on my iPad. In the mean time, I've started over on my iPad.

Thank you for the tip! Seaweed firefly has never worked for me, so better try out new ones!

Ok the big 3 for me took a bit but the hardest for me to get was the rainbow it took days of being pissed off breeding blaze + crystal = rainbow but eventually I got the blasted thing then I started on the new ones using Mud + Storm = Moon
Bone + Storm = Sun. Funny thing is these were faster for me to get. The same day the came out I started searching for answers and found the combos I just mentioned and a few tries later u got the sun and moon. Now how fast I grew them rested on gems being given to me and the occasional 2 bucks. The gene thing I'm not sure since I would get repeats an sell them but it is possible that it works , the repeats of the special dragons arrived very fast after I got the first moon. For dime people my combos didn't work but for quite a few they work out just fine. What ever questions u or anyone has I will gladly try to answer all u have to do us ask, thank u and Breed on!!

I hear ya there. I'm going to try everything I can without using crystal in anything. lol I'm horrified to go back to that again! lol I've been doing the exact same thing. Hoping to get gems from friends on the game and the occasional purchase for 2 bucks as well. Yeh, I do believe it's possible for the gene thing..but still not quite sure. I'm hoping others on here try it and chime in. I know 2 of us it worked for but could be coincidence. Thanks so much. I'm taking notes and going to start on sun and moon next but hoping I can help others get what they are trying for too. Just wish I would of taken notes from the beginning to have some kind of track of how I did things to see if there was a pattern or not. Thanks so much!

On another note...did you think from what Backflip said to you that it sounded like a 25 level cap for this big update coming or a 25 level cap period? Hoping it's just for this update. Look...now I'm getting all paranoid over this game ending! LMAO How pathetic is that?! It's just too early in the game to end Backflip! I hope they are reading this! lol

Lol on the day sun and moon were released, I used Blue Fire+Crystal twice and got a sun. Then I bought gems to speed it up. I then used Sonic+Storm and got a sun and 2 moons. Took about an hour to get all 4 dragons. I had no boosts and my habitats were on the same island as my breeding cave. My second rainbow seemed troublesome but not too much at all. Used Blazing+Crystal for like 2-3 days and finally switched to Seaweed+Firefly and got it second try.

I know the rares have given trouble to everyone, but I never seemed to have a problem :/. I haven't been playing long at all. I got my phone on 10/14 when it was released and bred my first dragon on 10/16. I'm not jail broken cause the iPhone 4S has no jailbreak.

I don't think it's possible for me to have unknowingly tried the gene theory because once I got a dragon, any other dragons of the same kind that I got, I just sold.

I wish I had some other tips I an share about getting the rare dragons :/.

Dang..you got those fast. Like I told Brooklyn I'm horrified to do anything with Crystal. After 4 of them in a row trying to get the newest additions...ugh. Don't want to go back there. I'm trying not to buy gems again to speed things up but I don't know if I can hold out! lol Holy crap! An hour...I know with buying gems and speeding it up..yeh...hmmm...now I'm tempted! I took off my boosts awhile ago when I read your post about that I think...and I did get my first Rainbow after that. You guys have all the luck! I have not got one rare I don't think on first or second try. I see that a lot of people do though...and it always seems they get it after switching from trying something else for awhile.

Right..I was almost positive you weren't playing on a jailbreak. I'm taking notes and gonna start on the sun and moon here as soon as I get the other egg in the hatchery. (hoping it's the Rainbow since that's what I was shooting for)

K...good to know on the gene theory. I think I did the same thing as you but I was also keeping some duplicates then sometimes sell them...I was just trying to fill up habitats but I would of kept a second instead of a first..hard to tell but doesn't really matter anyways because I didn't get anything rare from them anyways.

No..those tips are great...thank you! At least I'm getting the combo's wrote down for the one's I don't have and maybe taking off boost increases chances and having habitats with breeding cave..you never know. Anything is possible in this game I think.

I think they mean lvl 25 cap for this update (I hope) and maybe later we will get a higher level cap, and it's not pathetic it's just excitement and worry about a game that you enjoy very much. So worry all you want cause its ok. Breed on!!!

Wohoooo, after I don't know how many tries I finally got my Sandstorm. I wonder if buying gems really has something to do with getting the rare ones sooner than the non buying players? I bought some in the very beginning, not for much, but I got a sun, sandstorm and blue fire. Still trying now for moon and rainbow. There seems to be hope and with the update coming soon, things will stay interesting! Happy breeding
