Downloading Apps

I just tried to download an app from the iTunes store. I connected one end of the USB cable to my PC desktop and the other end to my iPad. It failed. What did I do wrong? FYI the model of my iPad is wifi only/64GB. Thanks.

Is there any particular reason that you don't download it directly to your iPad via the iPad's native App Store? There's no need to involve your PC.
