Don’t believe what you read online

I’ve got a couple of old iPhones so I thought I’d use one for music when I’m working in the shed. I begged the question online whether it would need to have a SIM card. The answer being yes, you’d need one for activation and then the SIM could be removed. Long story short I selected my old iPhone 5 and put my current iPhone 12’s SIM card in it. Sadly I couldn’t activate the phone as whilst I remembered the old email address for it, I couldn’t remember the password. SIM card back in the 12 I then charged and turned on my old iPhone 8. I managed to set this up just fine with no SIM card in it. Luckily I seem to have used an up to date email and password for the 8. Looks like the old iPhone 5 is now scrap. I’ll probably take it into an Apple Store for recycling at some point. It’s a shame really as I’m sure the OS on the 5 looks really nice compared to iOS26.
