Changing the phone number for Messages

Somehow.....my wife's phone number is on my iPad 4 for receiving messages. I have looked all over but cannot find out how to change it to mine. Thanks.

Go to the Messages tab in your Settings app (the gear icon one). On the right side should be a line titled "Receive At." Press it and you will be offered the opportunity to change how you get messages.

Thanks for getting back to me but that is where my wife's number shows up. When I press it the number is disabled but it does not give me the opportunity to change it. Two of my email addresses are also in this list. So I am back to square 1 but appreciate you taking the time.

I suspect that your Apple ID is being used on your wife's iPhone. That is where it is coming from. You have to log your Apple ID off your wife's phone and that will resolve the issue.
