Capcom Mobile announced today that it’s about to enter the social gaming realm with three new freemium social games for iPad, iPhone and iPod touch. The first of these, Lil’ Pirates, will be released towards the end of October along with a second game, Zombie Café, and a third, as yet unnamed game based on a children’s entertainment property, will follow in November. Capcom has long ruled the console world with the likes of the Resident Evil and Devil May Cry series, so it’s interesting to see the company branch out in an attempt to reach a more casual gaming audience.

"The release of these titles marks a new direction for the company as we complement our traditional premium pricing model with freemium social games for our customers," said Midori Yuasa, President and COO, Capcom Interactive, Inc. "By creating a line of casual freemium games we can appeal to consumers not serviced by our more 'hardcore' IP and cast a much wider net over the burgeoning smartphone app marketplace."

Of course Capcom has already released iPad and iPhone versions of its console games, but a cute game like Lil’ Pirates, developed by IUGO Mobile, represents a big departure for the company. In the free app, the player recruits their own band of scurvy dogs and sets upon the high seas seeking adventure, treasure and camaraderie. Starting with just a small ship and crew, players can upgrade their vessel and expand their crew by undertaking special missions and jobs. Once they start amassing resources and loot, players can battle other vessels, play mini-games with the crew, and bury booty to increase its value. Check out the screen shots, it looks very cute and un-Capcom-like!

Zombie Café is more like what you’d expect from Capcom, at least the name is, but it sounds like it has a lot more in common with Dinner Dash or Stand O’Food than Resident Evil, involving as it does a café empire staffed by zombies. To succeed in the café business, the player must prepare food, direct their zombie staff and manage supplies, and if the competition gets too fierce, they can always have their zombie staff attack their rival's cafes!

No word as yet on the name of Capcom’s third iOS social game, but these two sound intriguing enough to be going on with!
