Several Members have simply taken their iPads back to the Apple Store and - very humbly and contritely - told them what happened. Almost all of them found that Apple replaced the iPad free-of-charge as a once-time-only, goodwill gesture. No obligation on them to do so, and often the guy behind the counter doesn't know about this, so you might need to - nicely - ask to see the Manager. It's unofficial, unacknowledged but worth a try.
