Hi longshanks - the iPad Air2 was my second device, now on an iPad Pro. I would suggest visiting the iFixit Website - below are screen captures for the iPad Air2 battery replacement - they are charging about $100 USD for the battery and tools needed. A guide is available by scrolling to the bottom (3rd pic) - the replacement is described as 'Difficult', so may be daunting if you've not taken an iPad apart - I'd probably first check to see if there is a local 'reliable' dealer in Apple equipment for a replacement estimate, i.e. may be similar in price but done by 'hopefully' experienced techs.

Also, depending on your budget, have you considered upgrading to a newer iPad model (used, refurb, or new)? Good luck. Dave :)
