Assisted GPS

In the iPad specs it lists "Assisted GPS" under "Location" with the 3G. What does that mean exactly? Does the 3G model have a built in GPS receiver?

The 3G iPad does indeed have a GPS receiver. Assisted GPS means the device is able to use other resources, like an Internet connection or cell towers, to get either a rough location or GPS satellite info, to enable a quicker location fix. The iPad doesn't NEED the assisted part for the GPS to work. I've used mine in Europe and GPS works in airplane mode with location services on.

The Wifi only iPad model utilizes the proximity ton registered Wifi sites tom approximate the location of the iPad. Only the 3G iPad model is equipped with a true GPS chipset in it's hardware to enable precise location and navigation functions. :D
