i was wondering if you could control the iPad with the Apple Remote Control
is there an infrared sensor on the dock of the iPad?
i can't find it
the universal dock for the iPad has it, so why does (not) the iPad-dock?
i'd like to use my (future) iPad to give keynote-presentations, so it's obvious to use the Apple Remote

The iPad itself will not have an IR sensor. The iPad does look a little big for the current Universal Dock, and I do not know if a new dock will be created for presenters.

I do not think the basic ipad dock has an IR port. It looks more like the keyboard dock, just without the electronics for the keyboard. More like a picture stand.

If the iPad allows Bluetooth keybords, or even a Bluetooth preseters mouse/control then the IR remote becomes redundant. A little Bluetooth clicker is all that should be needed. Although apple could try to make a sideways presenters stand.
