What's new

Apple Pages

Can anyone recommend a good online guide for Pages? I’ve used DTP packages before and I don’t find Pages at all intuitive.

I just use Apple's manual. Here is the online verison:

This should be the same as the Help feature in the app. After tapping help in the (...) menu at the top right in the app, tap the icon at the top left in the Help pop-up to see the table of contents.

Apple used to provide a PDF version, but I don't think they do that now.

I just checked the iBooks store and there is a Pages User Guide that looks to be current. I don't know if the info is that different, but it might be easier to read.

Thanks for that, I’ll have a look. Back in the day I used Pagemaker and then InDesign on a Mac. The company I worked for also had a copy of Quark Express, which was completely alien (to me) in comparison to the other two. Pages also seems very different.

I is a bit different. I had a page layout app back in my Amiga days. Don't remember which one. I think there was only one. I used it to make a handful of of simple newsletters.

I've been using Pages for a long time now, so I don't really have any issues with it. Because it is designed to be both a page layout and and word processing app, it doesn't approach things the way people who are experienced with those more focused apps expect. Kind of he way iOS/iPadOS did not work they way a lot of people who were used to desktop systems expected.

The first chapter of the iPad User Guide covers some of the ideas behind how it works. I hope that helps you along.

Thanks again for that, I’ve downloaded the Mac and iPad versions. One of the reasons I want to use it is that I have a lot of Fonts on my iMac, but not all of then (semi bold for example) work with things like Open Office but are fine with Pages.
