Day 9 - Isla Marguarita

Our next stop, Isla Marguarita, was made so that folk could enjoy sailing, snorkelling and swimming. We decided to stay on board this time.

The crew's emergency drill was fascinating to watch.

Day 10 - Mayreau

Then we sailed on to an island in the Grenadines group. Mayreau has a tiny population - about 600 - and we sure created a population explosion! :)

I was up with the lark to enjoy Arcadia's slow approach to our new mooring off the coast of Mayreau.

The flora was very limited. I believe January is not that good for great displays of blooms.

Day 11 - St. Lucia

Our penultimate stopping off place was St. Lucia.

Arcadia arrived at sunrise. As we entree the harbour, a small passenger plane flew between us and the shore (about 250m clear width) turned sharp left and vanished!

image-1947085867.jpg

It landed at a small private airport. The harbour overall is fairly compact.

Arcadia had to turn around to face seawards. I expected the usual accompaniment of tug boats to pull and push her. But no! She used her bow thrusters and steering engine pods to slowly spin 180° around her central axis. Talk about big boys' toys! :) :)

Nice photos. I see you found the end of the rainbow in St Lucia, did you get the pot of gold? ;)

When you take a closer look, you'll see two rainbows.

Thank you all for your posts. At St Lucia, we took a tour to an old plantation house. It was a good full half day's worth. Photos to follow.

Our tour to a plantation. We stopped at a couple of places en-route. The first place was a view point over Castries harbour. Martinique was visible in the distance.
Our second stop was at a studio where a team of ladies produced Batik fabric goods.
At the plantation, we enjoyed a tour of the gardens. Again, there were very few flowers out as it was January!

Day 12 - Barbados

All good things must come to an end.

Barbados was the end of our cruise. We disembarked by mid morning. Some passengers would travel on for another 10 days' cruise in the Caribbean, ending up at Miami, I believe.

Every day of the cruise, crew members were carrying out on-going maintenance of Arcadia. Painting was the main task with sections of deck roped off for access. Now the Arcadia was in port for 24 hours, the crew had access to other areas for painting.

A final message from Barbados!

We can recommend a cruise as a once in a lifetime experience if no more. Overall, it's good value for 5* service, entertainment, relaxation, changes of scenery and a great overall experience.

Yes, we will be cruising again... Sometime :)

You got some good pictures there, Richard. Is the stone building with the windows in the curved end, the one where the post office is? I remember that there were a pair of buildings and the post office was in one of them.
