The iPad went on sale in nine new territories this Friday: Austria, Ireland, Belgium, Hong Kong, Mexico, Luxembourg, Netherlands, New Zealand and Singapore. It its report on the Hong Kong launch, the Wall Street Journal's "China RealTime Report" blog talked to a local vendor, Kurt Lo, who was delighted that instead of importing iPads from "friends" (cough) in the US, he can now buy them at his local store to sell on to customers in his own Hong Kong stores, as well as stores in mainland China and Vietnam, where the grey iPad market is huge (China still does not have a confirmed launch date for the iPad).
“Crazy — the iPad is crazy,†Lo told the WSJ. “Makes me very crazy and very busy today.â€
The WSJ says that Lo has already had between 300 and 400 orders this week, up from around 200 to 300 in previous weeks. The WSJ also reports that one Apple reseller in Hong Kong's Wanchai district could only offer customers a spot on its massive waiting list, as it didn't expect to get any more iPad stock for at least another two weeks.
