Update all - or is there a way to selectively update?

Hi all

Whenever there are updates, I only select the apps I wish to update. However I notice that all my apps eventually seem to update themselves whether I choose to or not.

I wouldn't mind so much but the updates for apps like playable and mkv player look like it will render them useless as the recent updates mean they don't play audio encoded files like ac3.

Is there a way to only update the apps I choose?

They shouldn't update unless you choose to do so.

The only thing I can think of that could cause this is restoring from iCloud, I think this would grab the latest version of apples servers rather than the actual version you had installed. Have you recently restored from iCloud?

I have never (knowingly) used iCloud so not sure why this is happening.
