Normally when I download movies on iTunes it takes 20mins-20mins tops, but recently my iPad seems a lot slower with app downloads of any kind and streaming videos online.

Anyway to speed up my iPad or let me know what's slowing it down?

What's the bandwidth of your broadband link. That 20 minutes seems lightening fast to me - I live in a rural area so I only get 2 Mbps and downloading a movie takes many hours.

I downloaded a speedtest app, unfortunately the app doesn't explain what the results mean.

Speed test results this morning-

"download" 0.31 mbps
"upload" 0.54 mbps
"ping" 316 ms

Speed-test I done 5mins ago-

"download" 0.85 mbps
"upload" 0.58 mbps
"ping" 73 ms

If you know what these mean, please let me know.

Just ran SpeedTest on my iPad2 and got

Ping: 93 ms

Download; 12.73 Mbps

Upload: 4.73 Mbps

That's on WiFi using a 5th gen Apple Airport Extreme and Comcast hi speed cable.

I forgot if you said but were your results over 3G or WiFi?

Your numbers seem pretty low compared to what I see on various WiFi networks.

Speed Test will give you a comparison graph to compare your results with the national average but apparently not in the iOS app. Try it on your laptop or desktop and see what results you get.

Over wifi, but I think it's the modem now. My xbox live connection is laggy aswell.

I'll test the laptop sometime tomorrow, I loaned it to my friend when got this.

Easiest thing is to pull the plug on your modem for a minute and restart it, also do a restart on the iPad. These things often clear up with a simple reboot.. Best of luck.

If it works, post new SpeedTest numbers after.

(Friends Connection At Top)

This is the broadband speed from my friends house.

I think I'll have to get a new modem, it's quite old and now I have the iPad, desktop, laptop and xbox live trying to split out the connection. It's running like windows '98.

I definitely saw a speed bump when I went from the 1st Gen Airport Extreme to the 5th gen model recently. Swapping the modem didn't make much of a difference.

Call your ISP and report the numbers you are getting and see if they will test your connection or send out a tech for free. Depending on the service level you are paying for you certainly should be seeing numbers much higher than you are.

Best of luck!
