Not sure this will be clear but I have an app I use to monitor calories and I have it set to display a badge to show the amount totalled up to date. The badge shows overlapping but on the side of the app icon much as the upgrade numbers do for the app store (which may be considered a "badge" possibly) Its the only app of mine I can think of I have "badged". OTOH, I have my calendar set to send alerts 2 days before an event by email and a sound alert set for the day before to get my attention. Maybe someone else can clarify but tjis is how I understand them.

Badges are displayed on the app icon, example is the number of apps you have to update in app store that number is a badge, an alert is something that will popp up.. Example is an alarm goes off or you get a Facebook update that pops up

The badge is the little red circle on the top left corner of the app button with a number in it. Like the email or text message button telling u how many unread messages u have.

What about 'alerts' ?

I am using a VoIP app called Line2 which sends me an alert/popup
each time I get a text on ipad2.

How about an app that can control this?

The folks at Line2 (aka Toktumi) say they can't control these feature, it's a function of Apple.

I have turned off all Notifications on iPad, no help.

Seems there must be an app to switch on and off this feature.

By the way, how do I capture a screen shot and post it here?

Thanks again!

Press the home and on/off buttons together......your screen shot will then be in your photo app.

As for putting it here, use the iPF app and when you type a post, tap the "attachments" button in the top right. Otherwise, you need a computer.
And turning notifications off will not turn badges off.

When I press both at once it does not seem to work. Just wants to go to the shut down mode on ipad2.

Checked photos, not there.

It's just a quick press, not a long one (as that will reboot your iPad).
