    Hi my name is Ray

I am a new iPad user, never used one before. As a Freemason I give lectures to other lodges, I had hoped to write my lectures on my PC Windows Vista and download them to my iPad so that I can take them along to,lodges and give them a lecture from my iPad However, I am finding this extremely difficult, is there anyone out there who can recommend an app that will allow me to download my lectures from my PC to my iPad as I do not have a clue? Any assistance to achieve my goal will be gratefully received. Please help!

    Hi there Ray and welcome.

You could install Dropbox on both your PC and your iPad to transfer the files easily (just drag the files into Dropbox on one and it appears, as if by magic, on the other.

What format are your lectures in as that way we may be able to suggest an appropriate app to show them in.

There is lots of good advice and info on here plus plenty of members all too willing to help with any problems.

Remember, search is your friend. If you can't find the answer you need and you post a question then give as much info as you can to help members help you i.e. iPad 1 or 2, iOS version and name of app if the problem is with a specific app........and please don't forget to read the rules http://www.ipadforums.net/forum-rules-help-info/2119-forum-rules-everybody-please-read.html

These are the hacking section rules for all you jail breakers (and would be jail breakers) http://www.ipadforums.net/ipad-hacking/2892-hacking-section-rules-please-read.html

We also have an app for this forum. The link to download the app is: Discussion Forum for iPad Users for iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad on the iTunes App Store

You can download the manual for your iPad here http://support.apple.com/manuals/ and in iBooks search for "iPad user guide for" and you will find free comprehensive manuals for both iOS 4 and 5.

If you have other Apple products or are interested in other Apple kit then why not join our sister forum too at http://www.appleforums.net/

As Gabriel says, a cloud storage like Dropbox or Boxnet, even GoogleDocs (just not to stay at one only) is a good way. Just need the appropriate app to work on the lectures - unless you just want to read them, then you could pdf-email them to yourself...

Hi Gabriel1, hpulmer and Leelai thanks for your early response, this is a completely new experience for me. I will follow your advice. The machine I am using is the ipad2 WiFi 3G 32GB. Not sure what the IOS stands for, however my lectures are written in MS Office Word for Windows Vista. Again, thanks very much.

iOS is the operating system for the iPad (and all of the other Apple iDevices).

If your lectures are in word you have many options, Pages is Apples own version but if your original files are heavily formatted then it may not display properly. You could also try apps like Quickoffice, Office2 HD, etc which are pretty good at coping with the formatting. In addition, if you are reading these out there are other apps which you can copy/paste into which will scroll or auto scroll the lectures like the auto scrolls that presenters use on TV. I have a few of these apps so if this is what you want to do let us know and I will post the app names here.

Ray, do you just want to see the lectures yourself, reading them out? Then you might consider exporting them to pdf and see them on a pdf-reader. If however you want to work on them (edit them on the iPad) you will need an app that is working with word files.
I use Quickoffice HD, and it does not show me the files exactely as I formatted them in Word...

Thanks Gabriel1, I have already downloaded drop box and pages. My intention is to progress from reading my lectures to giving presentations when I can afford it but clearly I will need a projector, screen and interface connectors etc. So, in the meantime, I would like to become proficient in reading with the use of the iPad. The auto cue scrolls that you mention sounds very interesting and the Office 2 HD. I would very much appreciate if you would post the app names.

    Thanks again
    Ray

    Hi hpulmer

Yes I would like to be able to edit my lectures. The lectures are in basic format, I will download Quickoffice HD as you have suggested and thank you again for your assistance.
