Hi I'm Jeffro
I am interested in using my 64 gb iPad2 in two distinct areas.
1) To help my 5 year old son, who has Downs Syndrome to learn to communicate and learn in general quicker. And
2) To do as many of my work related tasks as possible on the go as I do quotes one day a week for my carpentry & joinery business while I travel from customer to customer. Presently I am using a MacBook with a home made database (out of Filemaker Pro) that works well enough, but I often can't do the quote "there and then" and have to wait until Monday to look up/call up my supplier to find the price of some products that need to included in the quotes.
Anyway if anyone has any advice for me that would be great.
Jeffro

Hi Jeffro,

Good to meet you, I'm a Filemaker Developer. Have you considered using Filemaker Go on the iPad. Its made by Filemaker and you can take a copy of your database with you on the move OR access your main office database if its hosted (I could let you know about hosting options).

There are a few design considerations to bear in mind - for example - generally you need to create some iPad specific layouts (larger fonts and fields) and some script steps / functionality are not supported but its pretty good.

You can email a copy of the database back to yourself when you want to open it in the office and if there is more than one user (one in the office / one on the iPad) you would need to look at some method of synchronising what you do.....
