iMore reports today that it has heard from sources that have been accurate in the past that Apple will be holding a special launch event on September 12 for the iPhone 5, iPad mini, and the iPod nano. The same sources have also told iMore that the iPhone 5 will then be released just nine days later, on September 21. iMore says that it does not as yet have solid information about whether or not the iPad mini will also be released on September 21, but it is a distinct possibility, likewise the iPod nano. It’s possible that a new iPod touch will also be unveiled on September 12. According to iMore’s sources, the iPad mini will have exactly the same specs as the 9.7-inch iPad, only on a smaller scale. Their sources also confirm that having tried out various prototypes, Apple has also gone for the 4-inch, 16:9 screen on the iPhone 5.

Can someone let me know what the purpose of a mini iPad would be? Would there be additional features? Isn't the new iPhone suppose to have a larger screen too?

You know how many things come in different sizes? Small, medium, large, extra large, etc.? Coffee, soda, cars, clothes, TV screens monitors, etc.? Well, that's how different size tablets and phones work -- individual preference and price points.
