Ipad3 Will not turn on

Hi

I am new here and an Apple newbie!

My daughters new Ipad3 keeps blacking out when left in standby for a few hours or switched off. Pressing the power button on the top right often does not start the device and upon plugging into my PC, iTunes indicates the device is in "Recovery Mode"

It occasionally comes back on again when you hold down both buttons for a few seconds but often I have to plug it into iTunes, go through the restore process (which fails) then it just comes back on again!!

I have already done a factory reset from the device and re-installed from an iCloud backup.

Have you guys any suggestions before I contact Apple?
