If you contact your cellular carrier and have the hotspot feature activated, your iMac can connect to the Internet by connecting with it. Some cellular carriers charge a fee for activating and using the hotspot feature.

If you have Verizon data plan for your iPad, then you can hotspot, so yes, you can.
