This just really ticks me off. I just sold my old 5th gen iPod Video(80GB) on ebay and have my iPhone 3Gs (32Gig) listed.

Buyer sent money via PayPal.

Paypal says the money has been taken from the buyer and that they are holding it. I wont see a penny (not even the shipping costs) until after the buyer says they got the item and are happy with it or after 21 days if the buyer doesnt do anything.

I called them up on the phone and they said that I should just ship the item as fast as possable with money from my own pocket and then wait for however long it takes for the buyer to say the got the item and that its OK.

It would have been faster if I just asked for a check/money order.

Sorry PayPal but I'll no longer be using your services!!!

And you would send out the item why? I would cancel the sale as no pay and sell it on Craigslist. I have used Paypal for years and have never had this happen, is this a new policy? Although I have had them pull that when a buyer says they never received an item, even when I have an email confirmation from them saying they have it. I hate Paypal.

They said that its a new policy and any ebay sale that is over a certain amout of money they will put a hold until the buyer says that everythig was recieved OK. The limit in wich they put a hold must not be to high since this paymet was only $100.

This is not brand new. I had this same thing happen when I sold my iPhone 3G last year, and on several items on eBay. I am going to try and go Craigs List just to avoid this. But then with CL...you have awhole other bunch of possible issues...

I've never had this issue before, odd. Have you it in writing or anything so I can read the policy?

Thanks for contacting PayPal.

We understand your frustration at not having access to the payment you
received from your eBay buyer.

Most payments are processed immediately; however, to protect everyone’s
security, there are cases where we hold payment. For time to time,
PayPal will hold funds while we ensure that there are no disputes or
chargebacks made against the seller’s account. When sellers don’t have
the funds available to cover disputes and chargebacks made to their
accounts, the associated cost is significant. Managing this cost is our
responsibility – it’s also a benefit to sellers because it enables
PayPal to keep service costs for all our members lower than other online
payment providers.

If your account is subject to payment holds, the best way to get your
funds released is to ship quickly and use a shipping service that
provides tracking and delivery confirmation. If we can confirm that the
item was delivered, or your customer leaves you positive feedback, your
money will likely be released in less than 21 days. We want you to get
your money as soon as possible. Follow these tips to help get your money
faster:

* Ship the item and provide us with the tracking number through the
transaction details page. We will also confirm the delivery and release
the funds to your PayPal balance 3 days after the date of delivery.
1. If you are selling in the US, we can confirm delivery if you use
USPS, UPS, or FedEx to ship the item and use PayPal shipping labels.
2. If you ship through an alternative carrier or the shipment is not
US, PayPal will be unable to confirm delivery. In this situation, the
buyer must provide positive feedback or 21 days must pass without a
buyer dispute, claim, chargeback or other action on your account.
3. If you print labels and pay for shipping through PayPal or eBay,
the cost of shipping will be released from your pending balance shortly
after purchase. Printing labels on eBay and PayPal is free. You’re
charged only the cost of shipping.
* Once the buyer leaves positive feedback, we will release the hold
within a few minutes.
* If 21 days pass without a dispute, claim, chargeback, or reversal
filed on that transaction, we will release the funds.

Please note that buyers cannot request that PayPal release funds on the
sellers’ accounts.

I wish you the best with your future transactions.

Sincerely,
Mary Grace

Odd, it doesn't really provide any info on WHEN the situation of them holding might occur.

It's based on eBay feedback.........

Usually lower than 20.......or if you haven't used eBay for along time.....

I was making an online purchase from a non-eBay merchant and during checkout discovered thar PayPal was the CC processor. I abandoned the transaction. Personally, I think that PayPal is criminal, but the State AG doesn't agree. I'll never, ever use PayPal or eBay.

I have 100% positive feedback but havnt used it in probably 2 years.
I'm going to guess that's why. I always keep mine active, even if it means buying my DVD rewrites from there every once in awhile.

I sold 3 kayaks, all $1000.00 or more at different times and only once used paypal and that was to transfer funds because the buyer was insistent. He was officer in Air Force and I knew how to find him separately from paypal. The other 2 I requested check and after they cleared, I shipped. It worked. Maybe it is because kayakers a special breed. LOL
