How stop iCloud login requirement?

Using my iPad offline as a Kindle book reader.

Something has changed but I have no idea what, because is keeps asking me to "Sign In to iCloud". It asks me to enter the password for my iCloud account but this always fails (I am offline, after all).

How do I stop this please?

Have you tried going online and signing into your iCloud account?

Thanks. That worked - but only after I had changed my password.

A sign of my age I guess, but I find it very unclear which password is being asked for, both on my iPad and on my MacBook Air.

And I also it very infuriating that when I start up my MacBook Air I have to put in the Keychain password more than a dozen times.

It's not normal to have to enter the Keychain password that many times. Maybe it has something to do with operating offline?
