How do I change my email address

Just bought an Ipad and wanted to use my Hotmail.com address but ipad said it was already taken or similar statement so had to use my gmail address. How do I change it back to a Hotmail address. Thanks for your time.

That message probably meant that the email address was already being used as an Apple ID. have you or anyone else ever used the email address for anything related to Apple?

I assume you’re trying to change your Apple ID.
Did you already use your Hotmail email address as Apple ID, and created a new Apple ID with the Gmail address? If so, go to the iTunes Store or App Store, or to Settings - iTunes & App Stores, tap your Apple ID and log out. Then log in again with the Hotmail address.

Would have used it on my iPhone years ago.

So go to https://appleid.apple.com and reset the password so you can login to that old account.
