I'm thinking you need the HDMI adaptor to do this. Hopefully others will chime in with more info.

Hi Nannybowes - welcome to the forum! :)

I believe that you need to provide some more details: 1) What type of TV are you using and what are the potential inputs, e.g. HDMI, RCA composite, and/or component video? 2) What Apple adapter are you using to connect to the TV, i.e. there are a number of options? and 3) What type of 'videos' are your trying to play on the TV - do you see them playing on the iPad?

Please respond and maybe more specific advice can be provided - good luck!

I bought the apple composite cable and have it connected to the receiver and I select the input on my tv (sharp aquos quatron). I can see a vide as soon as I press play and the sound comes through the receiver, but I cannot see any part of my iPad screen on the tv.

I cannot see the video playing on my iPad when hooked up. I get a screen that says it is playing on my tv and I can see the play and pause buttons on the iPad.....but that' it.

Hi Nannybowes - I'm assuming that you have a cable like the one shown below (i.e. composite video w/ R/L audio) - and that you have this connecting your iPad into an AV receiver via an 'AUX IN' RCA port on the latter - correct? Then you have a cable connecting the receiver to your HDTV; if so, what kind of cable connects the receiver and the TV? I suspect that the TV connection is most likely w/ component video or HDMI, both digital video signals; of course, the cable below forces the iPad's digital output to be converted to analog?

Please respond - I would also suggest trying to connect the iPad directly to the TV - you can try the composite adapter but an HDMI cable adapter would be a better choice. I'm just trying to 'eliminate' this middle component that could be the issue w/ a varied mixture of analog/digital signalling. Good luck - :)

Yes this is it. Are you suggesting hmdi from iPad to reciever would do the trick? Would I then be able to see the iPad display on the tv?

Hi Nannybowes - I'm still not clear about your use of the term 'receiver' despite asking about your setup in my last post, i.e. are you trying to connect your iPad to another device (i.e. a receiver) and then have the receiver attached to your HDTV? If you have a separate AV receiver, please provide the brand and model number.

What I would suggest is to obtain the Apple HDMI adapter for your iPad, an HDMI cable, and then directly attach the iPad to your HDTV via an HDMI input - bottom line, iPad and HDTV cabled together only w/o an intermediate device - let us know if this is an option for you?

Leelai is right. Need a HDMI cable.

I have now hooked up using an apple av connector to hdmi. Kept getting messages that it was not an apple approved accessories. But in fact it is apple. How do I stop this message from coming up?

Also, while watching Netflix, movie kept freezing up and also the picture was getting blurry on and off. Any suggestions.
