Hi everyone.
I'm not just new here but new to apple. Well I'm about three months into my ipad retina. What ever number that is. I'm proud to say that I have resisted throwing it against the wall long enough to see that it may be functional. I'm now even competent enough to use it to look up a therapist who specializes in technology crisis therapy. I'm not new to computing, just new to operating systems that have to "
feel your pain" to know what to give you.

I wish I have found this place before I bought it. I might have been smart enough to know to get the 4G model instead of the wi-fi. Had I known that it keeps virtually "nothing" on it, then I would have been much less frustrated by planning that way. I probably wouldn't have purchased the 128 GB either. So I'm learning. I'm used to making the computer work the way "
I" wanted it to instead of learning that "this is how you will do it now." And my ipad survives only because Apple was smart enough to not make it snicker at you when you tried to make it work "your" way.

But I'm getting better. I begrudgingly bought it because of the program . . . excuse me, thee app, iannotate. I'm learning ways to make it [my ipad] more useful in my work in other ways as well. I have certainly found it to be useful and it saves me a great deal of time in some tasks. But I doubt it will ever become my best friend.

So thank you for being here. And I will indeed be downloading the user's manual. Perhaps I can make this thing less of the bane of my existence and more that a necessary tool.

Cheers,
John

PS - I'd hang around to chat now but I didn't get the 4G and my hot spot usage has skyrocket my data plan. So much for backup, backup, backup! yikes! My plan resets tomorrow. Amen

Definitely agree that 4G would have been better than wifi only. Not so sure about less than 128 if you can afford it. Big is definitely beautiful. You found the right place. There's not much that you won't find help with here so welcome aboard.

Well actually my son bought it for me. So I can't complain. But had I been smart enough I would have chosen the 4G but I didn't know you could get it without activating the 4G part. Further investigation would have shown me that if wi-fi worked fine for me that I wouldn't have had to add it but the option would have been there if I changed my mind later. And I would have seen that I could have added it to my AT&T phone account for about 15 bucks a month. And I wouldn't be nearly as frustrated as I am now because you can't add it after the fact.
So, it sucks to be me. At least sometimes. But in time I may find it an indispensable tool. It has already saved me time in dialing in projected images in a show venue. So the old dog is learning some new tricks. But the iannotate has made it worthwhile by itself.
Thanks for the welcome. I'm not "really" a bitter, grumpy old man.
Just mostly.

Thankssmalltowngirl13 and Kevin too. I'll be crusing around today to see what I can see.

I downloaded the user manual but found it to be pretty much worthless as I had the set up all done and I had discovered the gesture features already. Siri doesn't interest me in the least, I don't have, want or need Facebook or Twitter. Its unfortunate that all the operating systems seem to be going that way.

So I hope to find a lot of useful stuff here.
Thanks for the welcome!
