I have the app Book Crawler installed to create a listing of my ebooks, etc but when I try to download software l get a message to "Open it in Book Crawler" which makes NO sense to me. Have I by mistake added Book Crawler to some list of apps that are used to open software? Any ideas?

It's not you. An app developer can register their app's ability to handle certain document types with the iPad's operating system, iOS. I suspect that this application wants to classify the iBook and hence has to be able to read it to accomplish this. Once it's read and classified it, you can open it in a normal book reading app.

What happens if you do try to open a book in this app?

Book Crawler isn't crawling

Thanks for your reply and explanation. It probably is an app related issue. You asked what happens when I open a book, well I just went back to the app and all of my carefully entered book database info is gone!
So, I will contact the developer about the missing data but that still leaves me with the inability to open software .. Hotspot Shield

Thanks Tim. Based on your suggestion I contacted the developer of Book Crawler, he looked at a screen shot of my problem and fixed the application so it doesn't offer to open other apps. He was great at helping and I now have a new bug free copy of Book Crawler to use to index my library.
